From Metal and Electronics to Mario Kart

In a nutshell:

  • 'Techniktage' on September 21 and 22
  • 210 pupils took part
  • Insights into our manufacturing areas and apprenticeship professions
  • Focal points: Metal processing and electronics
  • Networking with apprentices as well as trainers
  • 'Zerspanertag' on September 23 for 100 registered professionals

Last Thursday and Friday, we opened the doors of our Factory at the Lingen site to around 210 pupils from the region. As part of the 'Techniktage' (Technology Days), we gave them exclusive insights into our state-of-the-art manufacturing areas and presented various apprenticeship professions. The focus was on metalworking professions as well as sensor and electronics manufacturing. There was also the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with our apprentices.

Behind the Scenes: How Humans and Machines Work Together

We welcomed the participants in groups at our visitor center. There, we started with a short presentation of the ROSEN Group and our business areas. From the visitor center, we then took a guided tour through different areas of our Mechanical Manufacturing, our Trainee Workshop, which is specially equipped for training purposes, as well as the Sensor and Electronics Manufacturing.

"Our modern manufacturing areas and the vastness of our company premises were visibly impressive to the young people," reports Dennis, Head of Shop Floor Electronic."In particular, the automated manufacturing processes with the SMT line in Electronics Manufacturing and the newest area of Mechanical Manufacturing with two CNC automatic lines vividly showed them how humans and machines work together in modern manufacturing."

Career Orientation Away From Everyday School Life

During the tour, the groups of pupils passed a total of seven information booths where our trainees took the floor and told something about their everyday life at ROSEN and their training. These included, for example, the professions of Industrial Mechanic, Construction Mechanic, Machine and Plant Operator, Cutting Machine Operator and Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems.

"Getting an impression beyond the daily school routine of working in an industrial company and the different professions in the field of electronics manufacturing and metal processing was definitely an exciting experience for the pupils – certainly also with regard to their career choice," said one teacher, summing up the day. "For me personally, however, it was no less exciting to be able to see machinery like this live for the first time."

Burgers, Gambling, Networking

Those who still had unanswered questions after the tour were able to ask them at the networking session afterwards. Here, the young people had the chance to talk personally with our trainees and trainers while enjoying a pulled pork burger, mac and cheese, and drinks, and to let the informative morning come to an end. Mario Kart and our in-house programmed game 'Pipe Inspector' were also very popular here –  because the gaming area in the networking tent naturally generated a lot of enthusiasm among the young people.

Expert Discussions at the 'Zerspanertag' (Machining Day)

On Saturday, the 'Zerspanertag' (machining day) followed, for which around 100 specialists from the field of mechanical manufacturing were registered. During a tour, the participants were able to take a look behind the scenes of our state-of-the-art machinery and discuss technical matters with our in-house specialists at a total of 13 information booths. The talks focused on various machining processes and the breadth of possibilities offered by our modern manufacturing facilities. This year, also tool manufacturers were on site and exchanged information with our colleagues and guests. A special crowd puller was a motorcycle helmet on display, which was milled from the solid as a special project in our manufacturing. Appropriately, the Ignition Racing Team electric, sponsored by ROSEN, was also on site and presented their current racing car, which was manufactured, among other things, with parts from our Shop Floor Machining. The day was characterized by many technical discussions around the topic of metal processing and a good opportunity for exchange and networking.
