126 Blood Donations and 46 New Stem Cell Donors

In a nutshell:

• First ’Health Day’ at ROSEN in Lingen (Ems) was a complete success - thank you to all involved!

• 126 employees donated blood, including 47 first-time donors

• 46 employees registered as stem cell donorsBegleitendes

• Accompanying framework program with information booths of HSE, the ‘Deutsche Rote Kreuz’ (DRK) and the ‘Arbeitsmedizinisches Zentrum’ (AMZ) around the topic health

On August 30, 2023, we held our first 'Health Day' at our ROSEN site in Lingen (Ems). In addition to our company doctor and the 'Arbeitsmedizinisches Zentrum' (AMZ), the 'Deutsche Rote Kreuz' (DRK) also visited to talk to the employees about the topic of health and to do something directly about it.

Every blood and stem cell donation can save lives!

In just five hours, a total of 126 ROSEN employees took the opportunity to donate blood – including 47 colleagues who donated for the first time. A further 46 employees had themselves typed at this event and can now become stem cell donors.

"Every single donation is an important contribution. Therefore, we would like to express our sincere thanks once again to all our colleagues who donated blood and had themselves typed. We are pleased that the donation campaign was so well received by the ROSEN employees and about the active support from the 'Deutsche Rote Kreuz' (DRK)," said Wolfgang (HSE Coordinator).

In advance, the places for blood donation were already increased, as the registrations exceeded the previously estimated number of 80 potential donors. A good sign to start with the first ‘Health Day’ at ROSEN. One by one, therefore, the room designated for blood donation filled up at noon on Wednesday.

Also Stefan Meyer from the DRK was more than satisfied. "On an ordinary blood donation day, we are happy about about 60 donors. ROSEN has far exceeded this number in a very short time. The first-time donor rate is also great, with 47 first-time donors," he summarized.

Accompanying framework program

Since the body consumes a lot of energy during a blood donation, a good and balanced meal must of course not be missing. To regain their strength, all donors had the opportunity to receive a free main course with drink and a dessert in our company restaurant ROFRESH afterwards. In addition, a beverage cart with slush ice and non-alcoholic cocktails in front of ROFRESH attracted many employees to get the circulation going again after the donation.

In addition to refreshing drinks and free fruit, many interesting information booths on the topics of health and a safe everyday working life were waiting outside our company restaurant. Our HSE team provided information on topics including occupational safety and our software for recording safety incidents, accidents and injuries. There was also a workshop for our safety officers, where they talked among themselves about successes and challenges in everyday work.

In addition to blood donation and typing, everyone also had the opportunity to obtain and fill out an organ donation card at the DRK booth. The DRK also provided important information about resuscitation and the use of defibrillators. The company paramedic was also on site and gave an insight into his first-aid backpack and his duties as a paramedic at ROSEN.

Employees were also able to ask questions of our company doctor from the 'Arbeitsmedizinisches Zentrum' (AMZ). The AMZ also offered preventive check-ups for computer workstations, which 33 employees took part in.

At a 'Health Day', in addition to physical health, the topic of mental health must of course not be neglected. Therefore, our colleague Eva-Maria (Senior Factory Coordinator) informed about a "Mindfulness Training" at another booth.

Despite the bad weather, the program met with many interested employees. "It is important to provide regular information on health topics and offer the opportunity to ask questions that may not be asked in the normal course of everyday work," Wolfgang explains.
