Experience Emsland – on land and in the water

The Ems is our regions namesake and life blood. All the way to its mouth in the North Sea, cities and towns are arranged along it like pearls on a string. In between, there is varied, inviting natural scenery for strolling and hiking. The summer months see many rowboats, canoes and pedal boats on the Ems. You can get from place to place along the water here in a leisurely fashion.

International quality peatlands and moors

The moor landscape in Emsland was once feared and very necessary, and is the source of many legends. Peat has since been removed to create large natural parks that can be explored. The Hümmling natural park is part of Europe’s natural and cultural heritage and offers visitors broad landscapes and architecture from five millennia. The Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen international nature park extends to the Germany-Netherlands border. With a guide or on your own, there is a great deal to see here.
